System administration

tuning

Installing a Unix box, today, has become a pretty easy task. Default choices usually leave you with a stable and usable box right after the first boot. Anyway, you might like (I liked) to perform some tweaking to move a bit further from the out of the box stage. These are the steps I took.

virtualization

Got tired of having too much hardware laying around the room? This section is focused on how to turn a single, heavy pumped server into a host for many virtual guests machines.

filesystems

Filesystems are not my primary area of interest; this means I don't usually spend much of my time playing with them. Nonetheless, sometimes is useful to stop for a moment and try to understand what's going on in your hard drive.

raid

This page contains some notes I wrote about my experiences with RAID implementations.

userland

Unix systems can be a bit hard for a first time user. It took me some time to get used and comfortable with it (though nowadays the average desktop user's experience is really improved). I gathered some quick notes here to be able to rebuild - more or less - a good working environment wherever I am and whichever system I have to use.

sysadmin miscellanea

And here is an unordered list of things I don't know how to categorize but I like to have handy.
